Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"If I could give this place 20 stars I would. Lactose free ice cream (i.e. real milk and dairy ice cream with added lactase) with flavor combinations that no other creamery dares to try… this place is a feel good “make you feel yummy inside” kind of spot!"
"Truly a phenomenal place for creamy ice cream that has a hint of alcohol. As one can tell by the name, they have very fun ice cream flavors at reasonable prices! They had a carrot cake flavor that I really liked and thought was amazing. There is a multi-use bathroom in the back with a few seats inside and small outdoor tables with foldable chairs."
"Tonight, I had the Fa’Sho Dough, which is their version of Cookie Dough, and wow, was it sweet and delicious! I almost went back for another one. I’ve been trying Bad Walter’s even before they had a brick-and-mortar place. Back in the day, you had to go to their pop-ups all over the city. I’m so glad they opened a physical location because they really have some of the best flavors in the whole San Francisco Bay Area. They’re always experimenting and have new flavors every week or so. It’s always a new flavor every time I come here, which is always exciting. Plus, they use real dairy but have no lactose for all my lactose-intolerant friends out there. Please check them out—you won’t be disappointed by this Oakland gem!"
"Delicious ice creamery with unique flavors! Added bonus is the ice cream is lactose-free. The staff was extremely friendly as well. Try the Hanky Panky if you like coffee flavored ice cream."
"I was in bed craving dessert and searching on google maps for places currently open. There were a lot of great options, but none to motivate me leaving the house. Then I came across this place and saw on their website they had PANDAN sticky rice. I immediately jumped out of bed and drove over to see if it was too good to be true, and I’m SO GLAD I DID because their Pandan Sticky Rice ice cream is SO GOOD!!! I’m devastated that I got to it the day before they’re ending this rotating flavor but forever grateful I got to try this specialty"
"Bad Walter's is one of the best kept secret's in the Bay Area. Maybe now that they have a proper location it will no longer be a "secret", but everyone is better for being able to access Sydney's wonderful creations. I've been scooping Bad Walter's for over a year now and look forward to the experience immensely every time. I live in San Francisco so going to get pints is quite the endeavor, not only financially and time-wise, but scheming-wise as well. I have to get the precious goods home before they melt! And guess what? It's always worth it! :) In short -- mix-in loaded pints with cute names and great creamy bases. Don't let the lack of lactose full ya, this stuff is the real deal, and if you snag one of the coveted pints before they're gone you're guaranteed to taste the happiness yourself."
"Everyone loves Bad Walter’s!! Most delicious and inventive ice cream of all time and lactose-free dairy is a huge plus! Mo who works there is the sweetest and the punch card deal is super sick. Oakland is lucky to have Bad Walter’s <3"
"Super yummy ice cream that is lactose free. We tried a bunch of flavors and ended up with a scoop each of “classic plain old vanilla” and “Inside out recess”. Great taste, friendly staff and decent seating area! Parking might be difficult on a busy afternoon but late evening should be fine. They change their flavors every week so check their Insta before heading in."
